Cherry Bomb by The Runaways - The lineage of rocker girls begins here. While there were female rockers before them, this band made the idea of being a successful female rock band possible. While short lived due to creative differences, Lita Ford and Joan Jett went onto successful solo careers and Micki Steele joined the popular 80’s pop rock band, The Bangles.
This was the song that kicked it all off. Cherry Bomb is snotty, bratty, obnoxious and completely perfect punk rock that you would expect from teenage girls. The sound and the attitude would not change much over the next three years, just straight up and loud rock. The Runaways were the ultimate women that rock.
